Newly Discovered Black Hole: Should We Be Concerned?
Written on
Chapter 1: A Gigantic Discovery
Australian astronomers have recently identified an enormous black hole that is expanding rapidly and consuming everything in its vicinity. This behemoth, dubbed SMSS J114447.77–430859.3, is located approximately seven million light-years from our planet. Naturally, one might wonder if this poses any significant risk to life on Earth.
However, given the vast distance involved, it seems improbable that this black hole could directly affect us. Seven million light-years is a considerable span, even for a supermassive black hole to traverse.
Section 1.1: Pop Culture Reflections
Such cosmic phenomena evoke memories of the film "Don't Look Up," which I watched in theaters last year. The movie portrays a catastrophic comet on a collision course with Earth, threatening to obliterate all life.
The plot unfolds with scientists facing ridicule as they attempt to warn humanity about this impending doom. The disbelief surrounding such existential threats draws a parallel to contemporary issues like global pandemics and environmental crises.
Only when disaster looms do political figures start taking action, often revealing the darker side of capitalism as companies seek profit amidst chaos. Ultimately, the political strategies fail, leading humanity to a precarious situation. In a desperate attempt, the world’s elite escape to a pre-constructed spacecraft, highlighting that they had foreseen the impending catastrophe.

Section 1.2: Is There a Plan?
This raises an intriguing question: do our leaders have contingency plans for potential global disasters?
Chapter 2: Final Thoughts
In conclusion, I don't believe we need to be overly concerned about this distant black hole. If it were to become a threat, it would likely be long after several generations have passed, if not the entirety of humanity.
If you haven't seen "Don't Look Up," I highly recommend it. The film is thought-provoking and encourages viewers to draw their own connections to today's pressing global issues.
