Unlocking Potential: A Journey Through ADHD and Empowerment

Chapter 1: The Beginning of a Journey
Twelve years ago, we learned that Jason had ADHD. Prior to this diagnosis, I recognized that he required help with his focus, which led me to establish a Morning Ritual for him, inspired by my own FIREDANCE ritual. Over time, certain aspects of this routine faded, but as he entered junior high, we reinstated it. During this period, he was receiving medication and therapy while also being part of a special needs program.
For years, I felt a deep frustration. As a life coach and stress counselor earning a good income, I was able to assist strangers effectively. However, helping my own son seemed elusive. When the pandemic forced us into home-schooling, I saw an opportunity: with Tananarive's close supervision and support from Jason's medical team, I could create a program to help him fully realize his potential.
I believed that no individual utilizes 100% of their capabilities. The success philosophies and alignment techniques I had studied focused on enhancing both potential and the percentage of that potential being utilized. I figured that if I could quantify it, improvement was possible. If the doctors estimated he had 60% of average focus potential, and the average person uses about 50% of theirs, then if I could elevate Jason to 80% of his, he could truly thrive like a typical peer.
The goal was simple: to equip him to meet basic human needs:
- Caring for his mental and physical health.
- Achieving financial independence (hunting and gathering).
- Forming healthy romantic relationships.
- Raising thriving children through positive example.
These are fundamental life skills, adapted for our human experience. I believed that by imparting the most effective techniques I had developed and tested with thousands of students, he could achieve independence without reliance on medication. Wouldn't that be the ultimate success?
Tananarive shared my belief, though the medical professionals were skeptical—until I explained my plan. They were surprised. My mentors possessed insights beyond conventional American medical practices, and they agreed to provide support as we moved forward.
The pandemic created a unique environment where we had complete control, allowing us to motivate Jason to engage in essential activities, provided we presented them appealingly. Here’s a key insight into behavior modification that I have discussed many times:
- Build rapport. I accomplished this by being present every single day and utilizing NLP techniques to connect with him on his level.
- Disrupt negative behaviors. This step is crucial; you must pause to change direction. To achieve this, shifting their focus, internal dialogue, or physical actions is necessary.
- Align desired behaviors with their higher aspirations.
Herein lay a genuine possibility. Why? Because I understood his ultimate goals, even when he was too frightened to acknowledge them.
As I’ve hinted, we delve deeper into this in our upcoming "M.A.G.I.C. 4 Teens/ADHD to A's" course, launching on Friday. This course is the culmination of over a decade of research and testing. You will have a 30-day window to enroll at an exceptionally low price, as a token of appreciation to the friends and fans who have followed this journey. I want this resource accessible to every parent seeking to support their child's path to independence.
Stay tuned for more details tomorrow!
