The Reign of Christ: A Source of Comfort Amid Chaos

Chapter 1: The Perspective from Heaven
In the midst of our chaotic world, one reassuring truth stands firm: Jesus reigns supreme. The opening verses of Psalm 2 provide a heavenly view of the earth's inhabitants. Now, let’s shift our focus to how these individuals gaze towards the heavens.
They proclaim:
"He who sits in the heavens laughs,
The Lord scoffs at them," (Psalm 2:4 NASB).
Looking into the heavenly realm reveals God seated on His throne. His scoffing is directed at those on earth who conspire against Him, as noted at the beginning of this Psalm. It's crucial to remember that heaven is the eternal reality, whereas our world is transient. God is eternally secure on His throne.
He perceives the deepest desires of our hearts but remains untouched by them. His throne is unassailable, and no amount of opposition from governments, rulers, or malevolent forces can disrupt His authority. It’s almost comical to think that our actions could ever diminish His power.
Yet, God does not remain inactive in the face of wrongdoing:
"Then He will speak to them in His anger
And terrify them in His fury, saying," (Psalm 2:5 NASB).
God's anger is directed at our rebellion. There may come a day—perhaps today—when we encounter His wrath. The scripture indicates that He will address them in His displeasure, bringing distress to those who oppose Him.
You may defiantly raise your fist toward God, but as verse 6 states, there’s one thing you cannot do: You cannot thwart Him. Men and evil forces tried to prevent the death of Jesus, but they failed utterly.
"But as for Me, I have installed My King
Upon Zion, My holy mountain," (Psalm 2:6 NASB).
Jesus is your King—the sovereign of all creation, the sustainer of the universe, the redeemer, and the ultimate Judge. In this passage, God designates Jesus as His King. This is a position of great honor bestowed by God. Zion symbolizes that this honor will never be stripped from Him. It signifies that Jesus will be eternally worshipped by His followers, a practice that occurs today within the Christian community.
