Chapter 1: The Decision to Quit Coffee

Many individuals are unaware of the profound effects coffee has on their bodies until they decide to stop consuming it. Having been a lifelong coffee drinker, I considered this change after hearing numerous testimonials about the positive impacts of quitting. Additionally, I was looking for ways to address my dangerously high blood pressure. However, I soon discovered there were other hidden advantages as well.

I decided to go cold turkey one day, and naturally, headaches ensued almost immediately. This discomfort lasted for just a few days, but what followed was an overwhelming sense of dysphoria. For those unfamiliar, dysphoria is an intensely unpleasant emotional state, marked by a lack of motivation and feelings of worthlessness. It surpasses mere sadness, creating an urge to retreat into a dark corner and disappear.

While headaches and feelings of sadness are often highlighted as common withdrawal symptoms, I noticed some unexpectedly positive changes in my body that I hadn’t anticipated.

Section 1.1: Blood Pressure Transformation

The first remarkable change I experienced was a significant drop in my blood pressure, reaching levels I had never thought possible. My previously alarming readings of 180/98 transformed into an impressive 120/75, and I could lower it even further with just a few deep breaths. Additionally, I incorporated strong hibiscus tea and Arginine + Citrulline supplements into my routine, both of which are known to assist in lowering blood pressure. Here's how they work.

Coffee acts as a double-edged sword regarding blood pressure. It not only constricts blood vessels but also stimulates the sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for our fight-or-flight responses. This one-two punch of effects can create a significant strain on the body.

Unlike coffee, which constricts blood vessels, wine acts as a powerful vasodilator, causing the small blood vessels to expand. Interestingly, the headaches associated with coffee consumption are linked to the same mechanism. Once I quit coffee, the blood vessels in my head returned to their normal size, alleviating the headaches associated with wine consumption.

I want to delve deeper into the effects on my digestive system and gut microbiome. Stopping coffee has led to significant changes, backed by research, which I’ve shared in a video below. The transformation in my digestive health is evident, as I now tolerate wine much better than before.

Chapter 2: Revamped Eating Experience

Transitioning away from coffee also altered my relationship with food. I noticed a remarkable change in how I felt while eating and afterwards. Meals now provide a satisfying experience, and I often feel a pleasant sensation after eating. My bowel movements have also improved, becoming more regular and satisfying, contradicting claims of constipation often associated with quitting coffee. The saying, "Your gut is your ancient brain," rings true here.

In summary, I’ve shared some of the notable changes I’ve experienced after six weeks of caffeine abstinence. While there are additional benefits, such as reduced irritability and anxiety, those will be discussed in a future post. I still appreciate the benefits of caffeine, but the key is moderation and understanding how it affects you personally.

Ultimately, my goal was to create some distance from caffeine to rediscover my true self without its influence. So far, the advantages of abstaining from coffee appear to greatly outweigh the drawbacks. It’s akin to spending $100 to gain a $50 benefit.
