A Poetic Reflection on Birds and Their Struggles in March

Written on

Chapter 1: The Impact of March Winds

In the tumultuous winds that herald the arrival of March, the perseverance of birds serves as a poignant reminder of resilience in nature.

This paragraph will result in an indented block of text, typically used for quoting other text.

Section 1.1: Observations of Nature's Turbulence

As the month approaches, the winds arrive with force, reminiscent of a lion's roar, yet we hope for a gentle departure. The birds, however, seem agitated.

A cacophony of voices emerges from a cedar tree, where fallen branches and discontent suggest that a nest has been lost. Jays, crows, and small songbirds contribute to a sorrowful symphony, each call echoing the distress of their situation.

Though it was still late winter at the time, some bird species bravely face the fierce winds to initiate mating and nest construction. Chickadees, ever chatty, are among those nonmigratory birds taking this risk.

All around, fallen branches blanket lawns and driveways. Despite my search, I could not locate a nest on the ground, but I am certain that many exist in the Seattle and Tacoma areas, given the extent of the winds and rain.

When you find yourself outdoors, take a moment to connect with the wind, the birds, and the sensations of life surrounding you. Doing so can infuse your existence with deeper meaning and clarity about what may be lacking.

Section 1.2: A Message to the Birds

Dear bird mourning a lost nest,

I extend my heartfelt apologies.

I regret our role in altering the weather patterns you rely upon. I lament that so many individuals are out here, wielding chainsaws and blowers, drowning out your calls for mating, feeding, and establishing territory.

It pains me that many are ensnared in their own worlds, oblivious to your struggles. I wish that every being that has encountered sadness or loss could comprehend your plight.

My hope is that you find a suitable place to raise your young. May it still be early enough in the season for you to start anew. I long for everyone to hear your song of sorrow and resilience, to recognize how inspiring and beautiful you are.

You will not surrender. After all, hope is a thing with feathers.
