A Personal Account of a Disturbing Experience with Roofies

Chapter 1: A Disturbing Encounter
During my college years, I was close friends with a girl we’ll refer to as Jennifer. Jennifer was acquainted with a guy named Angelo, whom I frequently spent time with, both in her presence and on my own. I always felt secure around Angelo, even when it was just the two of us.
However, one day I found myself alone with one of Angelo's friends, whom we'll call Dave. I honestly can't recall the exact circumstances that led to us being together that day, as it was many years ago and I was in my early twenties—an age often marked by youthful naivety.
We started off in the living room watching television, but before I knew it, I was lying in his bed, unable to move, as if paralyzed. Dave was hovering over me, attempting to engage in unwanted physical contact.
Fortunately, I was aware enough to suspect that I had likely been drugged, which gave me the strength to kick him off. Being a larger woman may have contributed to my ability to push him away, but I also feel like there was some form of divine intervention at play that day. It felt as though angels were guiding me to find the strength to escape.
I dashed out of the bedroom, sprinted through the living room, and fled his house. Thankfully, my car was parked right outside. Although I was in no condition to drive, I felt secure enough to take a brief nap in my locked vehicle.
In the aftermath, I didn’t think to report the incident or undergo a blood test. The potential for this to have escalated into a far worse situation was overwhelming.
What if I had been smaller? What if he had administered a stronger dose of the drug? What if he had lived in a more isolated area where I felt unsafe?
Unfortunately, the issue of roofies remains prevalent, with the variety and potency of such drugs only increasing. It’s essential for us to be vigilant for one another, especially for younger individuals who might be more vulnerable. Men can also be victims of this as well. What steps can we take to protect each other?
