Exploring Zitty Brits: The Quirky NFT Minting Experience
Written on
Chapter 1: Introduction to Zitty Brits
Recently, I delved into the ittybits Ethscriptions drop, which experienced remarkable success and has maintained a floor price fluctuating between approximately 0.06 and 0.1 ETH. This collection garnered attention from notable figures within the NFT community, leading to a surge of activity on Twitter.
Unexpectedly, a new set dropped: Zitty Brits. This release is intriguing for two reasons: first, it serves as a derivative of a derivative, and second, it marks the debut of an ERC721-based derivative stemming from an Ethscriptions launch. However, it diverges from typical derivatives as its artistic elements differ significantly from ittybits. Instead, it seems to playfully hinge on the rhyme between "Zitty Brits" and "ittybits."
Moreover, it pays homage to the cryptopunks collection through characters such as a top-hat-wearing gentleman, an alien, a zombie, a hoodie-wearing figure, and a beanie-clad character.
Despite its humorous essence, Zitty Brits is priced very affordably at 0.002 ETH per mint—around $4.50 at present. While it's not entirely free, it's undoubtedly inexpensive. The minting occurs via an ERC721A contract, enabling users to mint up to 100 in a single gas transaction, which typically amounts to around $5 or more. This structure is beneficial for bulk purchasers.
Upon visiting OpenSea, it's evident that this mint consists of various characters, most of whom, aside from the super-rare ones, sport zits on their faces. Each piece features distinctly English-themed backgrounds paired with British slang terms like "wobbler," a term that refers to a fit of panic. Imagine a zit-ridden British girl gazing at the white cliffs of Dover, accompanied by the word "wobbler." It’s a delightful concept!
What I appreciate about this project is its ability to exist as both a derivative and a standalone humorous creation, resembling a meme-like drop.
How to Mint from Contracts
Click on the "Contract" button, followed by "Write Contract." Connect your wallet by selecting the "Connect to Web3" button. Etherscan can be finicky, so it may take a few attempts to connect. Once connected, the button will display in green.
Next, the mint() function is uncomplicated. For Zitty Brits, simply input the amount of ETH you're willing to spend in the "mint" area and the desired quantity in the "amount" area. For instance, to mint one, enter 0.002 ETH and 1, respectively. Click the "Write" button and follow the MetaMask prompts. Voila!
It’s always prudent to review the entire code before minting from a contract, and many choose to utilize a burner wallet for added security. This contract is clear, safe, and easy to navigate. However, always exercise caution.
The minting function operates by checking the following:
- Is there sufficient supply available for the minter?
- Has the wallet exceeded the minting limit (which is 100 in this case)?
- Is a contract attempting to mint rather than an individual?
- Has the minter sent enough ETH to cover the minting request?
Once these criteria are satisfied, the transaction is logged, tracking the amount purchased to ensure compliance with the wallet limit. The NFTs are then minted directly to your wallet.
