Enable YouTube Picture-in-Picture Mode on iOS: A Simple Guide
Written on
Chapter 1: Introduction to Picture-in-Picture Mode
Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode has typically been a feature reserved for YouTube Premium subscribers. However, when Apple introduced iOS 15, it inadvertently granted all iPhone users access to PiP on YouTube through Safari, irrespective of their subscription status. This unexpected feature likely caught Google off guard, leading to subsequent updates that restricted non-paying users from using PiP.
In my attempts to find an unofficial method to reactivate this feature, I encountered numerous complicated processes that eventually discouraged me. Recently, though, I discovered a remarkably straightforward approach. Here's how you can enable it on your device.
Section 1.1: Steps to Enable PiP on YouTube
To get started, download PiPifier, a free application available on the App Store.
Don't worry about privacy; this app is completely safe and does not collect any personal data. After installation, you won't even need to open it.
Next, navigate to Safari and tap the "aA" icon located in the address bar.
Section 1.2: Configuring Safari for PiP
Click on "Manage Extensions" and enable PiPifier.
After that, visit your favorite YouTube video on Safari. (If you're using the YouTube app, just share the video link to Safari.)
While the video is playing, tap the "aA" icon again and select PiPifier.
The video will then seamlessly transition from the webpage into PiP mode.
Section 1.3: Enjoying PiP Features
If you're new to PiP, here are some handy tips to enhance your experience:
- Double-tap on the PiP video to resize it.
- You can reposition the video by dragging it to any of the four corners of your screen.
- Tap the icon in the top-right corner to return the video to its original size.
- To hide the video and listen to the audio only, swipe it toward the nearest screen edge.
(Note that the video will continue to load data as usual.)
That's all there is to it!
