Chapter 1: A Writer's Resolve

Is that title a bit too confident?

I've never been the type to flaunt arrogance. Instead, I've mastered the art of self-critique over many years. I've often found myself trapped in a cycle of negative thoughts, continuously telling myself "I can't" and "I'm not good enough."

This extreme level of self-doubt has made it challenging to rise above those feelings. In many ways, I am still working my way out of that mental space. That's why I remind myself, "I will succeed," whenever those nagging doubts threaten to pull me back down.

So, what has changed my perspective?

Self-confidence can be a peculiar concept. If you pay attention, you’ll notice constant encouragement for self-belief — whether it’s through art, the support of loved ones, or unexpected moments in life — these affirmations are everywhere, just waiting for us to acknowledge them.

For me, it took a combination of maturity and the realization that I could either remain in a life that left me unfulfilled or muster the courage to pursue what I genuinely desired.

When you recognize that the alternative is far more painful, faith begins to blossom. Imagining a life at its end without ever having chased your dreams brings a deeper understanding that nothing could be worse than living with regret.

Now, I possess the discipline to dedicate myself to my aspirations. I write daily, even on the challenging days.

This misconception about purpose often arises: just because something is your true calling doesn’t mean it’s effortless. At times, it demands every ounce of your effort, but you persevere because it holds significance for you. You endure setbacks repeatedly because that’s the only path to success.

Writing fills my days with intention and enthusiasm. I experience a profound sense of clarity and assurance that I am moving in the right direction.

I am confident I will succeed as a writer because there are no alternatives for me. I refuse to settle when it comes to the life I envision.
