Chapter 1 Understanding Morning Routines
Many people rave about their early morning habits, often starting at 5 AM. However, they seldom mention routines that are truly effective for them.

Morning routines can be overly complicated. I've experimented with various methods to discover what suits me best. While there are numerous strategies that successful individuals follow, implementing them consistently can feel overwhelming.
Typically, a common narrative involves rising at 5 AM, engaging in light exercise for 10 to 30 minutes, taking a cold shower, preparing a healthy smoothie, and completing two hours of focused work before officially starting the day. After all of this, one might sit there questioning their effectiveness, feeling as if something is amiss.
The reality is that these routines aren't universally beneficial. Trust me, I’ve been there.
Section 1.1 The Myth of the Ideal Morning Routine
Media outlets often highlight CEOs like Apple's Tim Cook, who wakes at 3:45 AM, or Richard Branson at 5:00 AM, leading many to believe they should follow suit. Yet, waking up so early can be quite unnatural for most. While the allure of having extra time to invest in personal projects sounds appealing, it’s essential to recognize that not all successful individuals adhere to this early bird philosophy; many prefer a later start.
Subsection 1.1.1 Discovering My Ideal Morning
After diving into books like "The 5 AM Club" and "The Miracle Morning," and watching countless morning routine videos, I realized that none of these methods worked for me. I felt drained and unproductive after waking up at 5 AM.
Then, I stumbled upon a video by Alex Hormozi that completely changed my perspective. He stated, "The ideal morning routine is one that maximizes your productivity and the leverage you gain from that productivity." This insight made me realize that a successful morning routine doesn't need to be intricate or involve numerous steps.
Instead of searching for a magical formula, I decided to simplify my mornings.
Here’s my straightforward routine:
- Wake up at 7 AM
- Take a shower
- Write for an hour
- Start working around 8:30 or 9 AM
Section 1.2 Finding Your Own Rhythm
Identify a Schedule that Suits You
Early mornings aren't for everyone. After trying to wake up at 5 AM, I found it exhausting. If you aim for seven hours of sleep, going to bed at 10 PM works, but if you’re accustomed to sleeping at midnight and waking at 7 AM, that's perfectly fine too. The key is not the specific hours, but ensuring you get enough rest.
Gradually Wake Yourself Up
For me, waking up at 7 AM became easier over time, especially after my military experience of rising at 5:30 AM. If you struggle with early mornings, try a method to energize yourself, like a refreshing shower or light stretching.
Prepare the Night Before
Consistent wake-up times are crucial, but having a plan for your mornings matters too. When I first attempted various routines, I often woke up early without a clear purpose. Now, I prioritize my tasks the night before, creating a simple to-do list to guide my morning.
Emphasize Self-Care
Your morning doesn't have to revolve around productivity. Taking time for self-care is equally important. Use this time for light exercise or pursuing passion projects that bring you joy.
Consistency Yields Results
My uncomplicated morning routine is effective. The goal of waking early for me is to dedicate time to writing. A simple routine allows me to focus on my interests without unnecessary complexity.
Chapter 2 The Power of Simplicity
A morning routine should not be overly complicated. The key is to adopt a minimalist approach that aligns with your needs and preferences. Don't hesitate to try new things and adapt as you go along!
