The New ChatGPT iPhone App: Features, Benefits, and More

Chapter 1: Introduction to the ChatGPT iPhone App
The ChatGPT app for iOS has officially launched, marking a significant development in the evolution of AI applications. This release is a game changer for mobile users, providing a more streamlined experience compared to using the web version on Safari.
Section 1.1: Why an iOS App?
You might wonder why an app is necessary when ChatGPT is accessible through Safari. The answer lies in convenience. Safari can often log users out unexpectedly, leading to a cumbersome login process. In contrast, the app offers an exclusive feature designed specifically for iPhone users.
Subsection 1.1.1: Getting Started with the App
To install the ChatGPT app on your iPhone, simply download it from the App Store by following this link. Alternatively, you can search for it directly within the Apple Store. Ensure you select the official version as illustrated in the images below.
This application is free to use, similar to its desktop counterpart. Upon opening the app, you will receive a notice that it is still in development, so occasional bugs may occur.
Currently, the iOS app is only available in the United States, but OpenAI has indicated plans to release it for Android devices shortly.
After downloading the app, logging in is straightforward, and you’ll quickly become one of the initial users of ChatGPT on mobile.
If you see the following screen after logging in, congratulations! You’ve successfully accessed the app.
Upon logging in, users can choose between GPT-3.5 for free or GPT-4 with a ChatGPT Plus subscription.
Section 1.2: Exclusive Features of the ChatGPT App
One standout feature of the ChatGPT app is its support for voice input! While the desktop version allows users to check their search history and adjust settings, only the mobile application includes voice capabilities.
This feature has quickly gained popularity among busy users for its convenience. You can simply ask questions verbally, and the app will transcribe your speech into text seamlessly.
Is the ChatGPT app on par with the desktop experience?
As previously noted, users can select which model to utilize (GPT-3.5 or GPT-4). As a ChatGPT Plus subscriber, I opted for GPT-4 to evaluate the app's performance compared to the desktop version.
The initial prompt was, “List five benefits of AI in society.” The second prompt tested whether the Web Browsing and Plugins features were enabled by default.
The results showed that while GPT-4 effectively responded to the first inquiry, it could not answer the second due to the Web Browsing plugin being unavailable. We hope future updates will incorporate all plugins into the iOS app.
